My Modeling Debut

(all images courtesy of Edyta Szyszlo Photography)

Okay, this is a little belated, early in the year Edyta asked if she could use my apartment as well as my face for an bridal shower inspiration shoot. I was thrilled with the request and agreed immediately (well, after it was cleared with the husband).

I have to admit I was a little nervous about the” modeling” aspect, but I was ridiculously excited about the whole event and to see how it would come together.  I really didn’t know exactly what would be happening, other than it would be taking place in my dining room.

There were a whole slew of extremely talented people who brought this together and made this gorgeous shoot happen so pop on over to Ruffled, where this was featured, to get all the details.  There’s a link to a gallery at the bottom of the post to see all sorts of photos!

Happy Second Birthday, Claire!

Last week was Miss Claire’s big 0-2 celebration!  I can’t believe that little smooshie muffin has turned two already!  My, how time flies.  We celebrated with a party in the park with family and friends, so here are some pictures from the day.

And of course, Little Man, aka Conor (I know, I’ve been a terrible aunt and haven’t taken many pictures of this cutie fella)

Overall it was a lovely (if not a little blustery) day! Thanks to everyone who came to celebrate Claire.

Found Fisheye

I’ve had a roll of film in my toy fisheye camera for a few years now. There were a few photos left and I just never took them. The other day I finally used up the rest of the roll and got the film developed. The bad news is that the flash doesn’t work, and I took the new photos in bad light conditions, so they didn’t come out. The good news is that I still got the rest of the images! Here are some of my favorite:

discovery bay part b: goodbye brenna

Where do I even begin with this post?  About three weeks ago I got a phone call in the morning…

“I’m moving to New York!”

Of course squeals and congratulatory remarks followed.  When I hung up the phone, however, a flood of tears came.  Brenna and I have been friends since freshman year in high school.  I couldn’t even begin to tally the number of notes we’ve written, hours we’ve spoken on the phone, number of texts/emails/chats we’ve exchanged…in high school a joke emerged (I believe our junior year math teacher started it) that we shared a brain and we still refer to that to this day. It always seems that we’re either on the same wave length, or one person completely balances the other out. While in college we didn’t talk as much, I always have viewed Brenna as a sister, and have always known she and I could rely on each other for anything.

Over the past few years, Brenna and I have begun hanging out more again, and it’s been absolutely wonderful. She stood beside me on my wedding day, and through many of life’s trials. I’m going to miss her terribly, but she *promises* that she’ll be back to the Bay Area at some point. Plus, I get an amazing place to visit–one of my favorite cities. I’m thrilled for her, completely jealous, and sad for myself. Thank goodness for gchat, Skype, email and texting!

Phew. A slightly long-winded post that all boils down to one point. Goodbye Brenna, good luck, I love you more than words can express, and I can’t wait to visit.

discovery bay part a: hello casey

this weekend i got to enjoy some sunshine and heat with some of my closest friends, and i cannot even begin to explain how wonderful and rejuvenating it was. the occasion was a welcome back/going away party for my high school bestie and her brother (she’s leaving, he’s returning). brenna and i were inseparable in high school, casey and i went to college together and he basically mentored me, kept me sane and acted as my stand-in brother. i went early on saturday morning with brenna, casey, and their friend doug to help set up and prepare for the barbecue.

it was just like old times–being there with the family, just hanging out, relaxing. we were able to knock out the veggie/fruit chopping for master chef bryan in record time, which left plenty of time to chat, lay out, swim, paddle around in the battle boat, and soak up some much-needed sun. i was reminded of the lazy high school days of summer, laying out on the dock, having care-free laughs with some of my nearest and dearests. i feel like i’m rambling on, but it truly was a much needed and very nostalgic day for me!

the first wave of guests was the parent crowd…i got to enjoy some kid time, including carpet surfing with linden (get on your board, paddle, pop up, surf, wipe out!).

later in the afternoon the rest of the guests began arriving for a low-key and very fun backyard barbecue. there was lots of food, LOTS of fruit salad (no hidden joke–we just made the worlds largest fruit salad), friends, family, catching up and laughter. it couldn’t have been a better day!

casey was in australia for grad school, i must admit i didn’t realize just how much i had missed casey until i saw him again–i mean, i knew i had missed him, it’s just different when you see someone again. i’m looking forward to having him back in the city, especially in light of the fact that his sister is leaving the city. i am determine to help remind him of how lovely san francisco can be, so he will be less tempted to move back to australia–selfishly, i’d like him to stay put!   as far as brenna’s leaving, i’ll go into more detail on that in the next post…

Erica @ 18 Weeks

This weekend, I had the opportunity to take photos of Erica for the next in her maternity series! We decided to stroll around the Mission, since she wanted to do some furniture browsing in the area anyway. Thankfully the sun came out, so it wasn’t frigid like the morning had been (sidenote: speaking of the morning, congrats to all the marathoners/half marathoners who ran on Sunday! I’m glad for their sake it was pretty chilly). Erica’s baby belly is still quite petite, but adorable!

Thanks, Erica! Looking forward to the next shoot…

Kitties Galore!

This last weekend, Brandon was in Portland with his parents and I was here with the kitties…many, many kitties. Seven to be exact. I was watching Edyta’s cats and Lindsay’s cats and how sweet they all were! I also was in amazement that I could, you know, set a bag down without worrying the contents would be spilled out and the strap chewed in half in less that 30 seconds. I’m not used to cats, I’m accustomed to troublemakers.

Anyway, I managed to snap some photos of the precious kitties, although some cooperated more than others. Desher posed as the model she is, Boris was more interested in rubbing his face on my leg, Weezer couldn’t be bothered to move (sure, take a picture if you must), Vail wouldn’t stop rolling on her back and Puma almost gave me a black eye, head-butting the camera into my face. Multiple times.

And that, my friends, was my kitty-filled weekend!

Half Moon Bay (again)

On Memorial Day, Brandon and I joined his coworker for a trip to Half Moon Bay.  Zoran had never been, so we took advantage of the holiday and took our short little roadtrip.  It turned out to be quite chilly and foggy, but it was refreshing to smell the sea air and just sit to watch the waves (and build a little sand castle).

billiards + babies

On Saturday, Brandon and I met up with some of his coworkers/our friends to play a little Saturday afternoon billiards.  It was a beautiful sunny afternoon spent with friends and babies.  I love San Francisco on warm days!

congrats, eric + glenna!

This weekend we attended the wedding of one of Brandon’s friends from middle school (they also went to high school and college together, and work about a block apart).  It was a beautiful, although a bit windy, day in the city for the bride and groom.  Strangely enough, this was the first wedding IN San Francisco I have attended since living here.  Here are some pictures I snapped of the day…congratulations, Eric and Glenna!
