It’s Alive!

I’ve had complaints that this blog has gone by the wayside, so I am officially bringing it out of hibernation. Pregnancy had come and gone and now I have my sweet little babe occupying my time. Actually, I am typing this on my phone with one hand as Eleanor is asleep on my other arm.

Motherhood has been good to me this far, and I feel so blessed to have this sweet, healthy little girl. As typing isn’t so easy at the moment I will continue this post in photo form. Here are various photos taken with my phone over the past few months.

My Modeling Debut

Okay, this is a little belated, early in the year Edyta asked if she could use my apartment as well as my face for an bridal shower inspiration shoot. I was thrilled with the request and agreed immediately (well, after it was cleared with the husband).

I have to admit I was a little nervous about the” modeling” aspect, but I was ridiculously excited about the whole event and to see how it would come together. I really didn’t know exactly what would be happening, other than it would be taking place in my dining room.

There were a whole slew of extremely talented people who brought this together and made this gorgeous shoot happen so pop on over to Ruffled, where this was featured, to get all the details. There’s a link to a gallery at the bottom of the post to see all sorts of photos!

Get Well Soon, Dad/Introducing Dr. Claire

I know, I know, it’s been a while. I’m skipping the excuses and just heading straight into the post.

SO.

My dad had his knee replaced on Thursday (icky), and so the last few days have been spent hanging out with the family and with Dad, taking turns entertaining him at the hospital. I have to say I’m guessing one of the highlights was his visit from Dr. Claire.

Dr. Claire came in her scrubs with stethoscope around her neck help PopPop get better, administering “medicine” and also giving him a card she had made him. She loved asking PopPop lots of questions, and watching him recline and sit up in the hospital bed.

Aside from hospital time, I got lots of kiddo time but yet again I left my camera, so these iPhone snapshots had to suffice.

Here we have Conor and some rapid bead-flinging action, and Claire coloring with her chalk.

Overall it was a nice weekend with family, just unfortunate circumstances. Get well soon, Dad!

Acrocat

Well. It’s been a while since I’ve given a cat update but Ben has had some behavior as of late that warrants one. Ben has been acting like an acrobatic cat, or acrocat as I like to call him. Last night I heard a ruckus and got out of bed to find him hanging by his claws in the doorway between our living room and dining room. Hanging. From the top of the door trim. My cat, dangling 7 feet in the air.

This evening, while sitting at home, he surprised me with another acrobatic feat. He just discovered he can jump from our table to the bookcase (the bookcase was the last place in the apartment he couldn’t reach) and tonight he felt like taking things a bit further. I tried to snap this video before he quit, so it’s not the best.

Sunny San Francisco, Part II

Whoopsies, this is a little more belated than I intended it to be; nevertheless, here it is. Part II of our sunny day in San Francisco with the munchkins. Gosh I love these kids…I feel like Colin Firth in his Oscar acceptance speech when I think about them (the part about the stirrings in the upper abdominals and dance moves). Anyhoo…onto the photos!

Sunny San Francisco, Part I

On Sunday my sister called to let me know that she and her fam, including her inlaws, were headed to San Francisco on the ferry, and would we be able to join for a few hours? I have been itching to see everyone, so of course I jumped on the opportunity. Brandon and I grabbed some breakfast and then headed to Pier 39 to meet up with the gang. Here is part I of the beautiful sunny afternoon! This post will be mostly Conor photos, and the next one will be more heavily Claire.

Ugh, don’t you want to just pinch those squishy cheeks? Also, notice the pirate ships on his sweater–there’s a skull and crossbones on the back. Christmas gift courtesy of Auntie & Uncle B.

Feelin’ the Love

Brandon and I typically don’t celebrate Valentine’s day by doing much. Usually a card, maybe a small gift, but overall we keep it low-key. This year we went out on Saturday for a mini-date, since Brandon is leaving for Dallas on business tomorrow. We figured we could have a relaxing, cozy night in to celebrate which would also allow for an early bedtime.

On Friday as I was waiting for Brandon to get home (from Dallas…he just got home and now he’s going back), however, I got an itch to do a little something special this year to make the apartment feel festive. I decided to scrounge through old photos, get out some red yarn and do a little “Valentine’s Installation.” Top it off with a vase full of fresh flowers, and instantly the top of our bookcase turned into a very happy place.

I am more a fan of thinking of Valentine’s Day as a day to celebrate everyone you love, not just in a romantic way. Don’t you think that’s more exciting? What did you do to in honor of this day, whether you love it or hate it?

A Hint of Nostaglia

I wore her old gym shorts to work out in today. Back in the locker room, gathering my clothes with my headphones on a friendly girl exclaims “Oh! Did you go to the naval academy? My brother went there!” I explained no, it wasn’t me, but my friend went there, and these are my friend’s shorts.

Our exchange was over and I’m sure she thought nothing more of it but as I walked out, I couldn’t help but feel a little strange. There was no reason for our conversation to continue, but it did in my head. “Why do you have you friend’s shorts? What’s she up to now?”

I guess the point of this is that every now and then there are reminders, and it still hurts.
